چکیده

Stream low flow estimates are central to assessing climate change impact, water resource management, and ecosystem restoration. This study investigated the impacts of climate change upon stream low flows from a rainforest watershed in Jianfengling (JFL) Mountain, Hainan Island, China, using the low flow selection method as well as the frequency and probability analysis technique. Results showed that low flow at this watershed over a period of 18 years (1990–2007) was 0.58 m/s and its recurrence probability and recurrence interval were, respectively, 99% and 1.01 years for low flow with a 60-day duration. Low flow rate decreased linearly both as time increment elapsed (R1⁄4 0.62, p< 0.01) and as air temperature rose (R1⁄4 0.60, p< 0.05), whereas the recurrence intervals of low flow were shorter (or occurred more frequently) as time increment elapsed. In contrast, no correlation existed between annual rainfall and low flow for this watershed, indicating that rainfall was not a factor influencing stream low flows. Since there were little to no anthropogenic activities rather than air temperature rise over time at this watershed, we attributed the decreased rate and frequent occurrence of low flow to the warming air temperature as time

Hydrological eco-service of rubber plantations in Hainan Island and its effect on local economic development.

The impacts of economic forest on global environmental change (GEC) are one of the hot issues in environmental study. Based on the 3-year observation data and 40-year climate data, GEC and analysis of the hydrological dynamic characteristics of rubber plantations and estimate of the water balance in the rubber plantations in Hainan Island were made. The results showed that the rainfall intercep...

Simulation of the climate change impact on monthly runoff of Dez watershed using IHACRES model

Identification and analysis of flow fluctuations in consequences of climate change is one of the most important factors in water resources management planning and this is vital especially in areas where large crowds are engaged in agriculture. Dez watershed, as an agricultural hub in the country, is one of areas that river flow fluctuations caused by climate change can affect a large population...

Climate Change Impact on Salmonid Spawning in Low-gradient Streams in Central Idaho, Usa

Climate change is often predicted to cause a significant perturbation to watershed hydrology. It has been generally associated with negative impacts on natural systems, especially in conjunction with conservation and protection of sensitive ecosystems. In the U.S., spawning habitats of threatened and endangered salmonid species are important areas that are potentially vulnerable to climate chan...

Climate change effects on economic growth: mixed empirical evidence

West Africa is vulnerable to the effects of climate change. This paper analyzed the impacts of climate change on economic growth in Anglophone West Africa with similar background, during the periods 1969-2016. Five growth model equations have been developed to incorporate climate change variables into the model. Panel data estimations such as the fixed effect model, random effect model and Haus...

Diversification and Demography of the Oriental Garden Lizard (Calotes versicolor) on Hainan Island and the Adjacent Mainland

The Oriental garden lizard (Calotes versicolor) is one of the few non-gekkonid lizards that are geographically widespread in the tropics. We investigated its population dynamics on Hainan Island and the adjacent mainland of China and Vietnam, focusing on the impact of cyclic upheaval and submergence of land bridges during the Pleistocene. Our Bayesian phylogenetic analysis reveals two mitochond...
